Vibrance Tribal Gathering
|
Sanga of The Valley, Master Trinidian percussionist, music maker and Keeper of The Beat, joins Ellen in Bali, at Mimpi Menjangan, March 11-19. On March 19, Mac and Al join us for celebrating The Balinese New Year’s celebrations, Oguh Oguh, and Nyepi (Silence) Day.Mac and Al welcome the New Year bringing us Qigong, Chi Dance & Tai Chi.
In this elemental Vibrance Tribe gathering, to the beat of Sanga’s drum, we’ll connect our tap root to the center of mother Earth, spiral the earth’s energy upward through all chakras, energize all meridians, until we lift ourselves upward connecting to the Creative Force of the Universe. As we open our portals to dance through doors of dizziness, nausea, fear of falling, we spin like tops, melt into the grass, spin again, becoming & embodying the connection between Earth and Heaven. Opening our hearts, lifting our spirits, we will sing and dance, play and pray all the day and into the night, celebrating Nature’s Rhythms, the dark and new moon. Highly recommended to join us for the full 18 days Or for 11-19, or 19-26. Celebrating the Balinese New Year with the Balinese is an experience of a lifetime. |
About this Program
VIBRANCE is a tribe of dedicated artists, leaders, and embodiment teachers whose mission is to inspire you to find joy, self-expression and radiant health through integrative sonic and somatic practices. We believe that through movement, music, breath, sound, song and visualization, we can transform ourselves, our relationships, our communities and our planet. Together, we are the bridge between devotional awareness and effective ecological stewardship.
Prepare to be completely immersed in the Elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air as we align with our true natures. It is one thing to mentally understand the concepts of “interconnectedness”, “reciprocity”, and “resonance”. It is quite a different thing to have a deeply embodied experience of these important stepping stones to healing and well-being. We will literally be planting ourselves in the earth, the fish and turtles will be our dance partners, the ceremonial fires become our allies as we burn through layers of disconnection and turn ourselves into the song that sings the world back into strength. |
Nyepi: Bali’s New Year's Day of Complete SilenceOn Nyepi day, the Balinese take part in ‘Catur Bratha Penyepian’ which means no working, no entertainment or pleasure, no lights or fires, and for some, no eating or talking at all for 24 hours. In short, everyone on the island is supposed to…. Do nothing!
Even Denpasar Airport is closed and all flights are grounded for the period of 6am to 6am the following day. The silence is policed by members of the Pecalang (traditional security men) from the local Banjar (counsil) with punishments dished out for rule breakers, such as cleaning a temple or being made to sit still on a road for 5 hours. The days leading up to Nyepi are charged with anticipation for the locals. You will see the Balinese busying themselves with preparations of offerings for different ceremonies. Nyepi however is only the final ritualistic step of a series of ceremonies spanning 3-4 days. The Ogoh Ogoh parade is not to be missed if you are visiting the island over Taur Kasanga. Ogoh Ogoh are mythological demons made of papier mache. The children of each Banjar create an Ogoh Ogoh each year, to be paraded along with the Ogoh Ogoh of other Banjars, accompanied with traditional music. The Ogoh Ogoh, which can be up to 5m in height are paraded with gusto and animation to scare away the evil spirits. They often represent the ugly components of society and are burnt to ashes as a show of purification after the parade. Any fan of theatrics and culture would be thrilled to catch the parade.
Fun fact: the Ogoh Ogoh parade was only first celebrated in 1983, unlike Nyepi which has been celebrated for centuries which is amazing proof that Balinese religion and culture has not been diluted by Western influence! |

Venue & Accommodation
Mimpi Resort, Menjangan, Bali
On the North-West coast of Bali in the village of Banyuwedang, Mimpi looks out towards the Menjangan Island. The area is notorious as a hot-spot for diving and snorkelling and just a little further down the coast a regular dolphin hangout. Mimpi's most special feature is its waters, as the resort is built across land with several natural hot springs. The careful architecture and landscaping makes for several shared natural hot spring pools across the 3 hectares of land. Inevitably the water and it's high mineral content is totally refreshing, rejuvenating and holds it's own healing qualities. For us the pools are perfect for aquatic bodywork, where we dance in the water to feel true fluidity. Classes take place in the Wantilan. A large space with wooden floors, the sounds of birds and some gentle breezes. We decorate the wantilan with beautiful silk hangings and bring a range of equipment from musical instruments, to dancing scarves, yoga mats, yoga balls and of course an excellent sound system! |
