This workshop is a week-long immersion in a new model of peak- experiencing learning. It is an integration of the mind-body disciplines that have emerged as the most effective approaches to expanded mental and physical functioning.

We all remember special moments when the joy of life itself took hold of our hearts and bodies; times when something touched us at a deep level, when we felt both more open and receptive as well as active and expansive and in touch with mental, physical and creative resources we hardly knew we possessed.  Great  athletes and performing artists as well as moments of love, deep appreciation of beauty and peak experiences often serve to remind us of our own capacities to experience these exceptional states of being  A major drive in most people is to find a way to have more of these moments.

We will learn how to create these deeply absorbing states from the fabric of our current experience while living in one of the most entrancing cultures on this earth.

Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, has long been recognized as a major center for the study and identification of the mental and physical factors that contribute to these states of being and the transformational practices that make it possible to cultivate these experiences.

For the past 32 years at Esalen, I have tracked the evolution of change processes.  The two models that stand out and are also most supported by current knowledge of brain function are Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement and Ericksonian  hypnotherapy.  Their work epitomizes mastery of the facilitation of human learning.

They discovered independently, that it is the key that opens the door that opens most, not the nature of the lock.

I have blended their work with carefully selected elements from Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Embodied Mind breathwork,Aikido, expressive movement, mindfulness, contact improvisation, play and Esalen massage.

We will learn to identify to identify the somatic and mental mechanisms that we use unconsciously in the construction of our experien i.e. how we entrance ourselves.

When we experience limitations in movement or feeling, we will learn how to support ourselves in a way that we can use these skills as the doorways into solution and more optimal states of being or flow.  We are left with effortless movement, reorganized perception, a deep sense of well-being and enhanced quality of connectedness with ourselves and others.

As we learn to use our attention in non-habitual ways our perceptions become more fluid and we tend to become more playful and open.  It becomes easier ,like the Balines, to access what Rilke called “that pure space ahead of us in which flowers ceaselessly open”.

The dazzling physical beauty of the Balinese culture is an expression of its spirit. It affects you from the moment you arrive like a massage for body and soul.  To walk in Bali can feel like dancing in an underwater ballet.

You quickly can feel part of the harmony of Balinese life and its unending festivals where artistic expression, music and dance are constant. Everything about Bali stays with you as its artistic and spiritual elements combine to touch a place far deep inside. You may feel blessed simply by being there.

In our little flowering jungle, sculptured rice paddy, lotus pond sanctuary you can very easily understand why Bali has been called “the Morning of the World and why it is often said the “Heaven is just another Bali”.

The workshop and Balinese culture complement each other in many ways. The Balinese move effortlessly through the day.  They make no distinction between work, play or artistic expression-distinctions are made more on degrees of sacredness in the act being performed.

Margaret Mead claimed that the Balinese exhibit less fatigue than any other culture studied. Live itself is seen as a work of art offered to the Gods with an emphasis on present enjoyment and grace both physical and interpersonal.  The result is a fascinating culture possessing warmth, openness and beauty to an almost entrancing degree.

Come see why it’s been simply stated by Herbert Gold” When the Gods want to have a Festival they go to Bali”!
