Esalen® Massage is a unique form of bodywork developed over the last 40 years at the Esalen® Institute, in Big Sur, CA. Known for its long flowing integrating strokes, this massage style facilitates the body to heal through deep relaxation.  Come learn this healing art among the flowering jungles and lotus laden ponds of Bali, Indonesia.  This special 30 day training will include in-depth experience and practice in Esalen® massage techniques with extraordinary teachers. The program will be complemented by daily meditation, chanting, yoga, chi gong, ecstatic dance and other moving meditation practices.

This training is for those who plan to professionally pursue massage or another type of body-mind discipline, as well as for those seeking an in-depth experience in bodywork. It offers the big picture of the Esalen approach: an inter-weave of body-mind-spirit, sensory awareness practice, meditation, psychological aspects, self-care, and more.

Participants will study massage as a tool for optimal well-being and stress reduction, as well as a valued component of transpersonal growth. The teachers distill more than a half-century of experience to offer 175 hours of comprehensive massage basics: centering skills, quality of touch, lengthening integrative strokes, movement and stretches, detailed structural work, and an energetically balanced approach to massage. Anatomy will be taught experientially as well as in lecture format. Students will also have ample time for guided practice with each other. Body mechanics, self-care, and presence will be emphasized.

Upon satisfactory completion, and after documenting thirty additional massages at your home site, an Esalen® Massage Bodywork Association Certificate will be issued. The certification fee is $150.00 USD. Enrolling in the Certification Program is not a requirement for taking this training. If you are not interested in being certified and you are only participating for your own personal healing you will not have to fulfill any additional requirements after the training.

You will experience in your own body the qualities of aliveness and flowing presence central to this method. The atmosphere and culture of Bali fit well with our intention to teach this method as a path toward healing, self exploration and transformation.

Week 1 February 17 - March 9 at Mimpi, Menjangan

Location: Remote north west coast of Bali, within the boundaries of Bali Barat National Park. Highlights include snorkel and scuba diving, hot springs, lovely grounds with two large pools for swimming, and lovely wood floored meeting room. Excursions to Joged Gamelan and Greek Restaurant with DELICIOUS Greek Food, also easy to visit several Balinese temples. Accommodations: Standard Patio rooms (shared by 2 people) included in price. Courtyard Villa price available upon request.
Includes delicious daily brunch and 2 group dinners each week. We will go out two nights and each person can pay for their own food.

Extra Excursions: Snorkeling or scuba diving (with license), Joged Gamelan Dance & several Balinese Temples.

Week 2 March 9 - 18  Ananda, Ubud

Location: located in the cool tranquil hills just 25 minutes walk from the village centre of Ubud, Bali, offers lovely rural views surrounded by lush, green, fertile rice paddies. Bali's natural beauty remains a part of Ananda's grounds. In each, the Balinese architecture, décor, fine painting is of hotel standard while all the modern conveniences expected by the discerning international traveler are here. All are air-conditioned and have exotic garden bathrooms, convey the essence of the tropic.
Accommodations: Standard Rooms with A/C, lovely bath & amenities Villa or family room price available upon request. (Extra Bed in rooms: $30/night)

This includes delicious daily brunch consisting of raw and cooked healthy & organic food and 2 group dinners. While we are at Ananda, people can eat dinner where they like. (We purposefully plan the schedule to have only two meals daily; fridges in rooms allow people to have snacks. We need less food in the tropics.)

Additional costs: airfare (approx. $1,000- $1,500 USD), dinners out (approx. $200 USD), snorkel/scuba($40-100 USD), other excursions($100USD) and shopping.
